Return to Book mark The Oscillating shaft is fitted with two flaps & two ratchet wheels arranged in opposite directions. Also fitted with a pinion gear wheel at the end to engage with a rack of gears attached to a connecting rod. The connecting rod is coupled to a freely driven crank gear, permitting the pinion and the shaft to oscillate within a defined amplitude. Thus the movements of the shaft is controlled to perform the combustion cycle.
